As featured in the Times Educational SupplementTransitions Access Project (TAP)

The TAP project consists of two phases:

Phase 1: This is a Transitions event staged in the first University semester open to all College access students in the Fife and Tayside area. It is comprised of four half-day sessions over two days, which are held in the University of St Andrews, the University of Dundee and the University of Abertay. Participants receive generic information sessions covering topics such as, finance, time management and planning, how to write personal statements and explore what support is available through student services. Staff from each of the three local universities delivered these sessions jointly. In addition participants experience three workshop/lecture sessions, which are tailored to make their consideration of progression from college to university smoother and more informed.

Phase 2: This is a Transitions event staged in the second university semester, which offers a limited number of participants from the first phase of the TAP project the opportunity to shadow an undergraduate host currently matriculated at one of the three local Universities. University partners accommodate the intended destination of the learner to enable the richest experience.

Project aims

  • To raise aspirations and confidence in college students wishing to study at University
  • To give college students a taste of university life and to experience the different university environments available in Fife & Tayside
  • To give college students the opportunity to network and interact with university students studying in their area of academic interest
  • To deliver the project collaboratively through a partnership approach in order to create a learner centred experience
  • To evaluate and seek feedback to ensure that the needs of those participating are addressed
