Bridging Project

SCOTTISH FUNDING COUNCIL PROJECT

‘BRIDGING FOR BUSINESS’

FROM HIGHER NATIONAL TO DEGREE

Bridging packs in areas of accounting, administration and business can be downloaded on this website.  They have been developed to prepare students through effective learning for entry by advanced standing to a business related degree programme from an HN qualification.

The bridging packs were prepared on the basis of research carried out on behalf of the Scottish Funding Council into difficulties faced by students when stepping up from Further to Higher Education.  The particular emphasis was on subject specific issues in areas of accounting, administration and business that students experienced during their transition.

The study was carried out in the period January-May 2006 into the links between Higher National and degree provision for college and university students within the Fife and Tayside areas.

Bridging packs are available for the subject specific areas of Business Environment, Economics, Marketing, Business Culture and Strategy, and Numeracy, where “problem” gaps were identified.

The Bridging Project Team of David McAllister, Dundee College, Mina Welsh, Angus College, and Richard Williams of Adam Smith College would like to thank all the students and staff of the colleges and the universities who participated in this study and contributed to writing the bridging packs.

Our gratitude is also extended to the Scottish Funding Council and in particular, Margaret Dundas, Scottish Wider Access Regional Forum, Dr Hazel Knox, University of Paisley, Dr Eric Massie, Scottish Further Education Unit, Jonathan Staal, Wilma Clark and Brian Glass whose support for and input to this Project was very much appreciated.

We hope you will find the bridging packs useful.

David McAllister, Mina Welsh, Richard Williams
